On Wednesday morning, 28th September 2022 at the Council for the Development of Cambodia, His Excellency Chhieng Yanara, Minister attached to the Prime Minister and Secretary General of the Cambodian Rehabilitation and Development Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CRDB/CDC) held a courtesy meeting with His Excellency Stefan Anton Messerer, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Kingdom of Cambodia. The main purpose of the meeting was to receive a courtesy call, discuss the progress of bilateral development cooperation between Cambodia and Germany, and exchange views and experiences to further strengthen and enhance future cooperation and partnership.

H.E. Minister Chhieng Yanara warmly welcomed and congratulated H.E. Stefan Anton Messerer for being appointed as a new German Ambassador to Cambodia. H.E. Minister, on behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC), expressed sincere thanks to the German Government for always supporting and contributing to the development of Cambodia, particularly in priority areas (rural development, health and social protection, governance, and climate change). As of 2021, Germany has disbursed around USD 670 million in grant aid, equivalent to 2.6% of the total grand funding provided by development partners to Cambodia. Meanwhile, H.E. Minister also informed H.E. Ambassador about the preparation for the Governmental Consultations on Development Cooperation between the RGC and the German Government, which is scheduled to be held in October 2022.

H.E. Ambassador Stefan Anton Messerer thanked and expressed his great pleasure in working as a German Ambassador to Cambodia. H.E. Ambassador highly valued the long cooperation between the RGC and German Government since 1994 and praised the RGC for putting forward the principle of ownership as guidance for development cooperation, making it easier for the development partners to direct their assistance to align with Cambodia’s national priorities. In addition, both sides also discussed and exchanged views on microfinance sector, concessional loans and progress of development cooperation between the two countries.

H.E. Chhieng Yanara, Minister attached to the Prime Minister and Secretary General of the CRDB/CDC, sincerely thanked and wished H.E. Ambassador all the best and succeeded in his diplomatic mission in Cambodia. Last but not least, H.E. Minister and H.E. Ambassador firmly believe that the diplomatic relations and development cooperation between the two countries will be further expanded and strengthened.
